Can people create their own lightning rod?

I mount my satellite dish on my roof. How I can prevent a ray of damage any of it? I'm always worried a little when the storm arrives. I can only disconnect the cables of the receivers, but I can not do anything with the LNB. I do not want to call a professional, I just want to create my own simple lightning rod.
