satellite receiver to work as a digital converter?

I have a satellite receiver that I hope will function as a digital signal converter switch after 17 February. It is a DirecTV receiver. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks Oh I totally forgot to mention the ears rabbit that I use. I'm not the satellite again, but still have the receiver, so I was hoping to jump just buying a converter box $ 50 because the voucher system is retained. Thanks for the replies!
