Can you split the signal from Directv to a DVR?
OK, here's the deal. I'm running the cables from Directv in my new home. Former owners used by cable, and have a hole drilled in the floor for every room tv I want to put in. However, the hole is drilled perfectly for the size a single cable. Is it possible to run a cable back to the plate (I have three lnb dish with the built in 4-position switch) and use something like this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103928&cp = & sr = 1 & origkw = satellite + satellite splitter & kw = + splitter & parentPage = search to split a cord in my two entries in the back of my DVR?
Spliiter that you have that there is no multiswitch, so it would not work for what you want do. This device is basically to connect a DIRECTV receiver more than a TV or other device. So that what you want to work properly you need have a direct line that runs from the multiswitch on the back of the DVR in each satellite in the harbor. If you try to split the cable between the multiswitch and the satellite ports on your DVR, you will have problems with the satellite signal. If you have a vacuum port on the multiswitch on the side that says "OUT" may implement its own satellite cable from there to its second satellite in the port on the DVR. Just be sure to use RG6 or RG11 type coaxial cable. All other not transmit a satellite signal. If you do not have an empty port on your multiswitch, you would probably just be better to call DTV and they go out and run the DVR line second. If the DVR is in the same room as the installer put it on their DVR second line should have been executed by you, and it would be free. If you install it yourself, but no other department to do your installation, call them and see what it will cost, also can be free depending on of their situation. Multiswitches can range from $ 40 to 200 depending on size, and only costs $ 49 or 99 depending on your account (if you have been defaulted before) to have the technology has just arrived and do everything for you. If you intend to do yourself, you could put in a multiswitch larger but the risk of losing its signal to all receivers if something goes wrong.
