Tech Direct TV Question: Why are there two coaxial cables coming out of the dish and receiver?
I have a little experience with cable television, the creation of entertainment centers, etc, but I just live with a friend who has Direct TV and I have very curious to know why the dish has two coaxial outputs, and of course, the receiver requires two coaxial inputs.
It seems unlikely that the satellite receiver requires two coaxial inputs. I usually assume the ratio of the antenna has two wires coming out of it, is that it is a dual LNB dish … in other words there are two individual blocks in the plate receiving the output signal and allowing the single-dish satellite unit to feed two receivers. Therefore, if your friend has only one receiver box, you could probably off one of the lines coming from the antenna. This is just my mind assumsion. I looked at the installation instructions for the brands available on the website DirecTV receiver. The receivers have two coaxial inputs, but only one of them seems to be for the satellite connection. The other looks like a spare RF input for any other device as a regular antenna or cable signal when using both satellite and cable television service.
