What counts as an archive of high quality music?
Itune say their songs are of high quality audio files, mp3, 256 kbps. Some mp3 audio files that range from 150-320 also approx. What is considered high quality? and what other music files are of high quality?
iTunes songs are not mp3. They are m4a, which use the more efficient AAC codec. The da 256Kbps iTunes m4a files are more or less similar to 320Kbps MP3 files. You could have high-quality WMA (Windows Media Audio files) somewhere around 280Kbps. The files so that the work is like pulling the data they think that humans can not hear. Any difference in tone too small for a human to distinguish and nothing too high or too low for us. This means that some data is lost when moving from the original master recording to m4a, mp3, wma o. There are other types of files, called lossless files that store all data from the original. These include the Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) and Apple Lossless Codec (which the iPod support). Moreover, WAV format using audio codec such as CD itself. The problem is that lossless files are huge so it is impractical to distribute over the Internet.
