Why is it so difficult to achieve without a cable or satellite DVR company is it?
I have Directv, I just switch on and suck Commiecast alike. I have had both their HDDVR and want to know why they should be involved, if I still had cable Moxi could hand $ 800 but I did not and I do not! I have a Hughes NO-40 HD DVR SNP hr SD-DVR-40. Directv man tried to make it work (I have 5 new slimline LNB dish with two cables and two lines work fine), but NO DICE. There must be some way to connect the DVR to record old without the BS-Tivo and Directv why they have to be involved? (I have the feeling that has to do with the second antenna wire) I searched for decent hack site, but I'm not a speakerhead-nor can I find nothing that applies directly to me. I think this DVR I have is a series two, which seems to be more hackable. Do not care about HD-only to record low cost! Thanks
Unfortunately satellite systems such as digital cable, use an encryption program owner. This is mainly to prevent people from doing what we're trying to do – the use of generics, or obsolete hardware is not controlled by the provider to record signal directly. I guess it's part of the problem there – the DVR you have is too old to understand the signal coming from your plate. The other part of the problem is as follows Directing is a receiver. The relationship with DirecTV and TiVo ended some time ago (and bad.) Customers who have had a direct recipient is old, but once changed or dropped at your service, your receiver was discharged – which means neither DirecTV Tivo neither recognized nor supported it. Pity, too. I would have gladly gone DirecTV just to continue using a TiVo DVR. Neither the one in use by DirecTV now, nor the dish can hold a candle to the functionality, simplicity and reliability of even my Tivo old generation unit session. Anyway, if you really can not get that working with the DVR (and unfortunately I do not think you will) you can still go buy a full DVR, which is essentially the same as a video player with a hard disk pushed inside. You will need a standard satellite receiver, and the latter to the DVR. The DVR only be able to record whatever channel the receiver is set at that time. Most receivers have a timer function that let you change the channel, which is used in conjunction with the scheduling feature allow DVR functionality to imitate good old VCR to record a specific channel at a given time. Unlike a normal DVR subscriber, you will not be able to set a recording based on the title of the series (eg CSI). You have to know when their programs are in, and the DVR and receiver program accordingly.
