TFC (Times Fiber Communications) vs. CommScope? CATV vs satellite? I just paid $ 30 for a roll of 1000 feet of TFC Amphenol [http://www.timesfiber.com/] RG6 Quad Shield. Black PVC jacket, fire retardant, only printed in 1960-1940 Label: T6Q-VBV NEC 820 Quad Series 6 CATV (UL) Listed E86650-2 18AWG Jul/07 printed on the cable: TFC-T10 File No. E86650-2 cable (UL) 6 Series 18AWG FT xxxx How CommScope compared to TFC? Which is better? The cable is designed for cable TV [1 GHz], but this cable can be used for television satellite [3 GHz]?
@ 1 GHz, attenuation is 9db/100 feet. @ 3GHZ, the attenuation is about 18db/100 feet. (That's not twice – db registration is and nonlinear. 9db an additional loss is nearly 10 times.) Satellite I can use? Yes, if you are using a pair of feet. If you need the 1,000 meters, @ 3GHZ is 178db attenuation. What this means is that technically, there is no signal at their end, but if the power cord with a 1-kilowatt transmitter, instead of a satellite dish, the signal probably will not see enough to know how bad it is. LMR-1700FR would not be bad for a 1,000-foot running @ 3GHz – Loss of only 19db. And at least one new mortgage on your house. (It's $ 20/foot, and accessories are a few hundred dollars each. But it requires a power halogen.) OIA, 1,000 meters to 3GHz is not something I want to do. And RG6 is not something we want to 3GHz.
